OAP CORE CLINICAL SERVICES
In December 2019, the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) announced a new needs-based, sustainable and family-centred program called the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). This change in direction included providing funding directly to families, who are enrolled in OAP, to purchase therapy services.
In March 2021, children and youth who are registered in the Ontario Autism Program started to receive invitations to participate in the launch of core clinical services. Based on your child’s individual needs, these services can include:
- applied behaviour analysis
- speech-language pathology
- occupational therapy
- mental health services, including counselling and/or psychotherapy
- technology, program materials and/or therapy equipment at the recommendation of a regulated professional delivering and/or overseeing services to the child
Our Core Clinical Services:
- Are eligible for purchase through OAP Core Clinical services funding, out of pocket and some private insurance providers
- Use evidence-based strategies of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) in a fun and supportive environment
- Are delivered by a team of Behaviour Therapists and supervised by a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA)/Registered Behaviour Analysts (R.B.A., Ont.)
What is ABA?
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based treatment approach that can be used for children and teens diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to help them live their best lives. It focuses on teaching life changing skills like communication, self-care, social skills, school readiness, and much more. ABA can also help decrease challenging behaviours like tantrums and aggression.
We use ABA strategies to support growth in the following areas:
- Communication skills
- Social interaction
- Play and leisure activities
- Motor skills
- Independence with daily living skills
- Emotional regulation
- Managing challenging behaviours
We also recognized that children without a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder may wish to purchase additional therapy services, so our services are available to any child/youth regardless of diagnosis.
