SKILLS FOR LIFE GROUP PROGRAMS (Ages 4-14)
Group participants are matched based on their age, skills, and goals to make the group as fun and successful as possible for everyone.
Our Skills For Life group-based programs allow children to build and strengthen social connections. We offer a variety of groups which are led by our team of Behaviour Therapists and supervised by Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA), Registered Behaviour Analyst (R.B.A., Ont.). Our groups range in size from 6-8 participants depending on the needs of your child/youth.
Social Skills Groups
Our curriculum-based social skills groups are designed to enhance social communication skills and relationship-building skills while navigating various social situations. Children practice conversation skills, nonverbal communication, active listening, and collaboration. They also learn to interpret social cues, respect boundaries, and respond appropriately in group settings, fostering meaningful connections and peer interactions.
Communication and Language Groups
Our communication and language groups focus on developing foundational language skills and improving expressive and receptive communication. Children work on expanding vocabulary, sentence structure, and conversational skills while learning to follow instructions and understand nonverbal cues. Through interactive activities, they build confidence in expressing their thoughts, needs, and emotions effectively in various settings.
Independence and Life Skills
These groups are designed to help children build essential skills for daily living. We focus on areas such as personal health and hygiene, kitchen safety and basic cooking or household tasks. Through engaging, hands-on activities, children have the opportunity to practice these skills in a supportive environment, fostering confidence and preparing them for increased independence.
Coding and ABA
In collaboration with STaBL Foundation and McMaster University, our Coding and ABA group combines the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with engaging coding activities to build both technical and developmental skills. Children learn the fundamentals of coding, such as problem-solving, logical thinking, and sequencing, while also working on focus, persistence, and teamwork. This group is tailored to support a range of skill levels, promoting learning through step-by-step instruction, positive reinforcement, and fun, interactive projects that encourage creativity and collaboration.
